HOMEWORK
B = Basic assignment; this is usually a bit shorter than the core assignment; Students may only choose this assignment if they have been given permission by Mrs. Hanna in advance. This assignment option is designed for students who might need more time for processing, reading, or writing; it is NOT an "Oh, I have a busy night tonight, so I want to do the Basic assignment" option. I will not grant
permission in such instances.
X = Extra challenge assignment; designed for students who are understanding the current concepts well and are looking for extra
challenge. Students may choose this option on their own. They do not need my permission for this choice.
If you have further questions on these designations, please ask your student for clarification. We have spent a great deal of class time
discussing these. If your student can't clarify, please ask him/her to come to me with the question. Remember, we are working together to
develop your adolescent's communication, self-advocacy, responsibility, and self-reliance - vital skills our adolescents need to be developing
and using now in order to grow toward becoming capable, independent adults.
Posted Dec. 8 - Manga High: I have assigned 6 OPTIONAL activities. If you complete all 6 (meaning at least 4 attempts or a bronze) by the due date of Saturday, Jan. 4, you will receive 10 extra credit points in the Class Engagement/Work Quality category. Your name will also be put into a drawing for HW passes. Two Helpful Hints: First, be sure to have paper and pencil with you and use it while working on the activities. Second, click on the "Teach Me" button before working on the activity to get a clearer understanding of the work. The 6 activities should appear on your Assignment board in Manga High and are:

Monday, 3/16/20 - Monday, 4/6/20. Extended Spring Break. I'll miss you all! Hope we'll all be back together soon!
The following are not assignments - simply ideas for any families looking for suggestions.
Several families have asked about suggestions for math practice during the extended break. If you are interested, I’ve listed some good sites, as well as concepts/skills that we’ve covered thus far (or that students have learned in past years) that would be good practice/review.

There are several other links listed on the DPS website (and also on the Flyer app), for family entertainment, at-home learning, and stress-management resources.
A few non-screen ideas to add to those you and the kids already have in your back pocket…

HOMEWORK
- math homework is always due the next day unless otherwise noted
- math homework is to be completed on loose leaf paper, not in the spiral, unless otherwise noted
- If your child is struggling with any of the problems on the homework, please encourage your child to just try something. Your child's work is not counted as late if each problem shows evidence of good effort. We go over the work in class the following day, and your child will have the opportunity to learn strategies for the problem, and to ask questions. Also see the important note regarding struggling on HW on p. 5 of the Sixth Grade Handbook, and the additional handout from Back to School Night for additional strategies to coach your child through difficulties
- For assignments that have a B, C, X designation:

Hooda Math offers a variety of fun math games and tutorials as well as the opportunity for timed fact practice. If you are not fluent (automatic) in your multiplication/division facts, or even your addition/subtraction facts, you will definitely want to get yourself up to speed. When you are fluent with your basic math facts, your brain is freed up to focus on more complex mathematical thinking when you are solving problems. This Hooda Math link is set to take you to the Sixth Grade Games section, but you can navigate to other grade levels and tutorials. Click on math timed test here to go directly to the timed math fact practice.
